What is R-454B?

R-454B is a next-generation, low-GWP A2L refrigerant created to replace R-410A in new air-conditioning and heat-pump systems. It’s a blend of R-32 (68.9%) and R-1234yf (31.1%) that delivers cooling performance comparable to R-410A while dramatically lowering its climate impact (GWP ≈ 466 vs. ~2,088 for R-410A). With zero ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0) and strong energy efficiency, R-454B is quickly becoming the standard choice for residential and light-commercial HVAC, including split systems, rooftops, VRF, packaged units, heat pumps, and new low-GWP chillers.

Classified by ASHRAE as A2L (low toxicity, mildly flammable), R-454B is engineered for safe use in properly designed equipment that meets today’s codes.
